Dead End Road
By Tim D Oleson - 1/27/2007
My life is beyond the end of a dead end road; the road stopped before I did.
Was it a mistake or a blunder on my own part that put me here? At first I thought, yes, but as I partake in the struggle to determine my own way, I now question whether fate was involved or just destiny. Perhaps, it was the will of God.
It seemed treacherous at first but I eventually found it invigorating to seek my own path. The boulders, trees and thick foliage that were barriers, became challenges that dared me to defy and to get beyond. These challenges, that before, I had passed by without noticing, had a beauty to behold. Only by being forced to deal with them, did I marvel at their stature and grace.
There are times, no doubt, when the convenience of taking the highway to my destination makes perfect sense, however, how will I be able to appreciate the labors of the road builders if I do not venture off that manicured path to admire the terrain they tamed.
My life is often preoccupied with trivial matters. The potholes and narrow shoulders that seem so bothersome can keep me from understanding or appreciating the work that I have been excused from. If I hike off the path of convenience, and allow myself to observe the noble efforts of others, it can make my own excursion even more worthwhile and instill in me the priorities required to make my own trek with pride intact.
So when you come to what seems like a dead end road, look beyond, there can be a whole new adventure, just waiting for you.
ie: The Adventure Begins...
“When words fail music speaks. ”
― Irena Huang
“When you play, never mind who listens to you.”
― Robert Schumann
